Wooden door not closing during monsoon
Doors often swell in Trivandrum monsoon. The fix may be drying, hinge adjustment, planing or sealing exposed timber.
This guide is for first checks only. If there is shock, sparks, burning smell, active leakage near wiring, unstable structure or anything you are unsure about, stop and call a qualified professional.
If a door suddenly jams after rain, do not slam it. You can damage hinges, locks and the frame.
What you can check safely
- Check where the door is rubbing against the frame.
- Keep the room ventilated and dry if possible.
- Look for water entering near the bottom of the door.
- Tighten visible hinge screws only if they are loose.
- Use the door gently until it is adjusted.
What not to do
- Do not cut the door heavily while it is still swollen.
- Do not force the lock if alignment is off.
- Do not leave raw planed timber unsealed.
