Water pump not starting after a power cut
A pump may fail to start because of tripped protection, capacitor failure, dry run, switch fault or wiring issue.
This guide is for first checks only. If there is shock, sparks, burning smell, active leakage near wiring, unstable structure or anything you are unsure about, stop and call a qualified professional.
Do not keep switching the pump on and off repeatedly. Pumps can overheat fast if the fault is electrical or dry-run related.
What you can check safely
- Check if power is available at other points.
- Look for a tripped MCB or pump starter overload.
- Make sure the water source has enough water.
- Listen for humming when switched on.
- Switch it off if it hums but does not rotate.
What not to do
- Do not bypass starter protection.
- Do not run a dry pump.
- Do not touch pump wiring in wet areas.
